He received his M.D. from Second Military Medical University and his PhD from Fudan University, both in Shanghai, China. Dr. Yuan completed pathology residency training at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where he was chief resident, and at the University of California, San Diego. He also completed a hematopathology fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.
