IGG SYNTHESIS RATE/INDEX, CSF |
||
ORDERING INFORMATION: |
Geisinger Epic Procedure Code: LAB3730 Geisinger Epic ID: 145808
SPECIMEN COLLECTION |
||
Specimen type: |
CSF AND serum | |
Preferred collection container: |
||
Alternate Collection Container: |
6 mL red-top (plain, non-serum separator) tube
|
|
Specimen required: |
1 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) aliquot of serum AND 2 mL (minimum 1 mL) CSF
Special notes: |
BOTH serum AND CSF required. The collection date and time is preferred to be the same for both specimens (maximum 48-hour duration between CSF and serum draw times). Both CSF and serum must be sent for calculation of synthesis rate by nephelometry. CSF must be crystalline clear. Light, moderate, or grossly hemolyzed CSF samples will not be accepted. Serum separator tubes also acceptable
SPECIMEN PROCESSING |
||
Specimen processing instructions: |
Refrigerate CSF specimens. Centrifuge and transfer serum specimens to clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s).
Transport temperature: |
Transport both specimens refrigerated (cold packs) in the same shipping container.
Specimen stability: |
Room Temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 1 week. Frozen: 3 months.
Rejection criteria: |
Received room temperature. Hemolysis. Xanthochromia/RBCs/hemolysis in CSF.
TEST DETAILS |
