TEST DETAILS
Interpretation guide:
U/mL value
Result
Interpretation
<0.60 Negative Absence of detectable CMV IgG antibodies. A negative result generally indicates that immunity has not been acquired. If exposure to CMV is suspected despite a negative finding, a second sample should be collected and tested no less than one or two weeks later.
0.60-0.69 Equivocal Suggest a second sample be collected and tested one to two weeks later.
≥0.70 Positive Presence of detectable CMV IgG antibodies. A positive result generally indicates either recent or past exposure to CMV.
CPT code(s):
86644

Test includes:
Antibody detection to CMV IgG.
Methodology:
Chemiluminescence
Synonyms:
CMV IgG, Cytomegalovirus IgG
Cytomegalovirus antibody IgG
Clinical significance:
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) exposure occurs throughout life, and by adulthood 50-90% of the population is seropositive for CMV antibodies. A single positive CMV IgG result is useful in distinguishing subjects who have been exposed to the virus from those who have not and by itself is indicative of a prior infection. Testing for CMV IgM antibodies is recommended to support a diagnosis of a current infection.
