Specimen required:
2 mL aliquot serum or plasma; minimum 1 mL. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.
Special notes:
Gel barrier tubes are unacceptable.

Specimen processing instructions:
Serum: Allow to clot. Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.
Plasma: Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. 
Transport temperature:
Frozen (preferred) or refrigerated.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: 1 day. Refrigerated: 5 days. Frozen: 1 month (-20°C).
Rejection criteria:
Grossly hemolytic or lipemic samples are unacceptable. Gel barrier tubes are unacceptable.

Reference interval:
Norclozapine: Trough, steady-state 25-400 ng/mL. Detection limit 25 ng/mL

Clozapine: The therapeutic response begins to appear at 100 ng/mL. Refractory schizophrenia appears to require a therapeutic concentration of at least 350 ng/mL (trough, at steady-state).
Detection limit 25 ng/mL.

Critical values/courtesy alerts:
Clozapine: Toxic range Greater than 1000 ng/mL. Norclozapine: Toxic range not well established.
