Specimen required:
Minimum 50 mL aliquot freshly voided urine labeled with patient name and medical record number.
Special notes:
Add equal volume Saccomanno preservative to fresh urine. State "Urine for BK virus" on requisition.

Transport temperature:
Room temperature if preserved with Saccomanno fixative.
Rejection criteria:
Inadequate patient identifiers on specimen, unlabeled specimen, discrepancy between patient specimen and requisition information, improper collection.
