2.7 mL blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube
Specimen required:
Whole blood in 2 mL Greiner blue-top tube
Special notes:
Do not spin whole blood. Do not place tube in tube system. This is a regular outer diameter draw tube and can be used with other Becton-Dickinson collections. Draw order should be maintained, draw this tube prior to any other anticoagulant or additive tubes. Do Not Refrigerate or freeze tube. Specimen stable for only 4 hours. If drawing Verify Now Aspirin analysis, specimen needs to be drawn in a separate tube.

If drawing Verify Now Aspirin (PFASA) analysis, specimen needs to be drawn in a separate tube.

Room temperature.
Specimen stability:
4 hours.
Rejection criteria:
Overfilled tube, underfilled tube, stability limit exceeded, tube system use, centrifugation of whole blood.

Clinical significance:
Plavix or similar drugs are used as an anticoagulant prior to surgery. Effective drug use will result in a lower answer than the reference range. Resistance is seen in a small number of patients and will manifest as a normal value with drug usage confirmed
