Specimen required:
Three (3) 1 mL aliquots from a light blue top tube. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.
Special notes:
Tubes must be filled to completion to ensure the proper 9:1 blood to anticoagulant ratio is achieved. Specimen should be collected before coagulation factor replacement therapy is started. Specimen must be centrifuged within 60 minutes of collection.

SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Specimen processing instructions:
Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. MUST BE SPUN WITHIN 60 MINUTES OF COLLECTION. Double-centrifuged specimens are critical for accurate results, as platelet contamination may cause spurious results. Specimen must be sent to GMC to do testing for Ristocetin cofactors, Factor 8 assay, and Factor 8 antigen before sending to Quest. 
Transport temperature:
Frozen.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: Unacceptable. Frozen: 6 months.
Rejection criteria:
Thawed plasma received room temperature or refrigerated is unacceptable. Hemolyzed specimens unacceptable. 3.2% citrated plasma, shipped frozen, is the only acceptable sample type. All other anticoagulants (heparin, EDTA, oxalate) are NOT acceptable.
