Centrifuge and transfer serum specimens to clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s). 
Transport temperature:
Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: 7 days. Refrigerated: 15 days. Frozen: 30 days (-20°C).
Rejection criteria:
Gross hemolysis. Gross lipemia. Grossly icteric. Stability limits exceeded.

H. influenzae Type b IgG Ab 1.0 mcg/mL or more. The precise level of antibody required for protection is not known; however, geometric mean levels of 1.0 mcg/mL are considered to be indicative of long-term protection.

Clinical significance:
Haemophilus influenzae is a gram-negative bacteria that is present in approximately three-quarters of children and adults. In infants and young children, haemophilus influenzae, especially type b, may cause bacteremias and meningitis. In children and older individuals haemophilus influenzae may cause respiratory tract infections.
