Clinical significance: |
West Nile Virus (WNV) is an RNA flavivirus, spread by mosquitos from mammal to mammal, and is the etilogical agent responsible for recent outbreaks of encephalitis in Europe, Asia, and North America. The PCR test is the most sensitive assay for the virus, but should be used in conjunction with traditional WNV serology for clinical diagnosis. |
