Test includes: |
Qualitative and quantitative detection of antibodies to hepatitis B surface antigen.
Methodology: |
Chemiluminescence Immunoassay |
|
Synonyms: |
Anti-HBs, HBsAB, AUSAB Post Hepatitis B vaccine Hepatitis B surface antibody HBSABB
|
|
Clinical significance: |
The presence of the antibody to hepatits B surface antigen (anti-HBs) is used to determine immune status to HBV or disease progression in individuals infected with HBV. An increase in anti-HBs levels, together with a loss of detectable circulating hepatits B surface antigen (HBsAg) denotes convalescence in hepatitis B infections. Furthermore, anti-HBs levels can be measured to determine if vaccination is needed, or following a vaccination regimen, to determine if protective immunity has been achieved.
