Quest test code 90382, Neuromyelitis Optica
Clinical significance:
Test is used to confirm suspected cases of NMO and to assist in making a differential diagnosis and identifying the cause of MS-like symptoms in the patient. An accurate diagnosis will further help predict disease course and provide direction in treatment options. Indications for Testing: Rule out NMO in patients with optic neuritis and transverse myelitis and distinguish this disease from multiple sclerosis. Special Notes: NMO-IgG antibodies are also present in patients with longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) without optic neuritis, which is thought to be a precurser to NMO.
