Urogenital (vaginal, cervical, urethral swabs or secretions); Respiratory (sputum, bronchial washing, tracheobronchial secretions, bronchoalveolar lavage, nasopharyngeal or throat swabs), sterile body fluids, tissue and wounds Acceptable: Random urine, semen, transtracheal aspirate (neonates), or CSF (neonates). Submit swab, fluid, tissue, or exudate in VTM or M4 transport media. | |

Preferred specimen: Minimum: 1 mL or 1 swab of urogenital specimen (vaginal, cervical, urethral swabs or vaginal secretions) in M4 Transport Media or UTM (preferred) or VCM (also acceptable). Alternate specimen: Urine, sterile body fluids, tissue, wounds (swab), respiratory (sputum, bronchial washing, tracheobronchial secretions, bronchial alveolar lavage, nasopharyngeal or throat swabs) in UTM(preferred) or VCM (also acceptable). Urine: 3 mL. |

Specimen processing instructions: |
Urine: Client should centrifuge urine at 3000 rpm for 15 minutes. Suspend sediment in VCM or equivalent transport media. If the specimen is not centrifuged, submit a 1:1 volume of urine in VCM or equivalent transport media. Submit a 1:1 volume of sterile body fluids, tissue, respiratory (sputum, bronchial washing, tracheobronchial secretions, bronchial alveolar lavage) in VCM or equivalent transport media. | |

Room temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: 48 hours. Frozen (-80°C): 30 days. | |
