Special notes:
Eswab - preferred device for wounds, drainages, eyes, ears, genitals; Sterile Cup/Tube - preferred device for body fluids. BD CultureSwab, BD CultureSwab Plus, Health Link Transport Sterile Liquid Stuarts Swabs Amies or Liquid Stuarts Swabs, Amies Gel Swabs and anaerobic transport medium (ATM) are also acceptable. If more than one (1) tube of CSF is collected, submit tube #2 or #3 for microbiology studies. Check expiration date on transport device before use. Send small pieces of tissue most likely to be infected.

Transport temperature:
Room temperature (18-25°C).
Specimen stability:
Approved swab: Room temperature 72 hours
Specimen in ATM: Room temperature 72 hours
Sterile container: Room temperature or 2-8°C 24 hours
Urine transport device: 72 hours
Rejection criteria:
Improperly labeled/identified specimen. Expired collection/transport device. Quantity of specimen insufficient. Frozen specimens. Specimens in formalin. Delay in transport.
