Clinical significance:
To be used as a rapid prenatal screen, in conjunction with full chromosome analysis, to detect aneuploidy such as trisomy 13, 18, and 21, monosomy X, and other numerical abnormalities of X and Y chromosomes. This test will not detect chromosomal rearrangements or numerical abnormalities that do not include the above chromosomes or regions of hybridization on the above chromosomes. Therefore, this test should only be ordered in conjunction with Test Codes 14590 or 14591 (Chromosome Analysis, Amniotic Fluid) or 15815 (Chromosome Analysis, Chorionic Villus Sample). If results are not possible from the submitted specimen, the test order will be canceled and replaced by code 416 - Cytogenetics Communication.
